Room Service

2015, Oil on Hardboard, 7"x 5"
#193

The alternate title for this painting was 'Redrum.' This is a hall way in the Waldorf=Astoria, in New York. It's not as decadent as it might seem, since the rates are comparable to most other hotels. But, I love the history of the place, both real and imagined. They used to have Cole Porter's piano in the lobby.

The Ramp

2014, Oil on Hardboard, 5"x 7"
Scenes From a Train
#175

Another painting of the beautiful Newark Station. This is a scene looking up toward the skylights, obviously, and maybe not as obviously is the pedestrian ramp leading to the platform. For me, this series never gets old.

This is a painting of the inside of the water tower in Volunteer Park, Seattle. I have always been strangely drawn to decay. I love looking at how things show wear.

Trenton Station

2013, Oil on Hardboard, 7"x 5"
Scenes From a Train
#126

This is my latest painting from the series Scenes From a Train. This, as the title implies is Trenton Station. I fell in love withe buttress-like steel work and all or the light. As the phrase goes "Trenton makes, the world takes". Thanks Trenton for letting me take this image.

Paper Lanterns, 2

2013, Oil on Canvas, 7"x 5"
#094

One of my students put these lanterns up after the Chinese New Year decorations were taken down. Thank you, Katie. This scene reminded me of a painting that I did several years ago, Paper Lanterns (now Paper Lanterns, 1). In both paintings the lanterns seem out of place, but in each painting it is for a different reason. See if you can tell why.

Grand Central Clock

2012, Oil on Canvas, 7"x 5"
#057

I found myself in Grand Central Terminal because as it turns out is where the Apple Store is. My iPhone needed to be replaced which was something of a pain but it gave me an opportunity to wander through this historic and beautiful structure. This is a painting of the famous clock which sits atop the information kiosk that can be seen in so many movies.

Easel Pulley

2012, Oil on Canvas, 6"x 4"
#055

Some days I can't for the life of me figure out what to paint. That's when I start looking around the studio. I've looked at this pulley countless times. It is the upper pulley on my studio easel. It is part of the system responsible for keeping me out of traction. Thank you pulley.

Paper Lanterns

2010, Oil on Canvas, 20"x 16"

I haven't posted anything in a while because I've been busy working on a painting that is somewhat large and fairly complicated, so I looked through my archives and found this painting which has actually been hanging in my dining room.

It was painted during an event held last Spring, inside the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts. I don't usually like to paint in front of an audience but I have a tough time saying no to anyone at the Museum (Please, don't tell them). I set up my easel and was prepared to work on a still life of objects brought for the occasion. After some searching, I realized that there were no electrical outlets anywhere (I have no idea how they vacuum that gallery). Thinking it unwise to paint from candle light, I started looking around for anything to paint. I looked up and saw this hanging above me.
