This is a painting of the courtyard at St. Mark's Church in NYC. More specifically, it is a painting of a very old locust tree hat happens to be in the courtyard at St. Mark's Church. I love New York and I love trees, so any time that I can combine the two is a red letter day.

This is a painting of City Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. It was painted, or at least started on-site during the summer and am just getting around to finishing it. When I start a landscape outdoors I prefer to finish it in the studio. Outdoors I'm in record mode, later, without the distraction of reality, I can concentrate on just making it a good painting.

This is a painting of the full moon about one month ago. Maybe I should say, one moon ago. The sky was slightly overcast and of course there was snow on the ground. Perfect. The more I paint the more I come to realize that it's not the weather and environment that changes over the years as much as how I see and react to it.

This is a painting of our very small valley. There is a stream below the hill. The view is from my studio and is of the hill across the way. The hill behind us, our trees and house are what is casting the shadow at the bottom of the painting.

I have always loved this tree. It is a Silver Maple next to our house. It's large enough to catch lots of snow, unfortunately that has caused it quite a bit of damage over the years.

I'm posting some of my older works for the simple reason that my camera was stolen while on a trip. It was either taken from my hotel room or from my checked bag. So, until my shiny new Canon shows up (and I learn how to use it) I will be posting what I hope is a "best of" series. I am currently working on a series of landscapes which is a return of sorts, to my roots as a painter. I hope you enjoy.

I've been painting trees for many years and I have never come across a more interesting collection of such "paintable" trees as there is in City Park in Hagerstown, MD. You may recognize this beech from my previous post In The Shade.
